Licenses and contracts
Virginia licenses contractors by the size of the job: Class C for a single contract over $1,000 and under $30,000, Class B from $30,000 to under $150,000, and Class A from $150,000. For electrical, plumbing and HVAC contractors the Board also requires a master tradesman license.
If the house was built before 1978, the firm has to be certified for lead-safe renovation by EPA.
